Moulds for Pewter Centrifugal Casting
Manufacture of parts by pewter casting
Thanks to our own laboratories, we are able to manufacture silicone moulds for pewter to measure and on demand, which allows us to satisfy any need our customers may have for their production process.
Our range of silicone moulds for pewter is marketed under the SILCODISC-PE brand name. These moulds offer a long service life thanks to their high mechanical and tear resistance. They are designed and formulated for centrifugal casting of low-melting-point metal alloys, such as pewter and other tin alloys. They are also suitable for resin centrifugation, including both polyester and polyurethane resins.
Our SILCODISC-PE series moulds are characterised by:
- Extraordinary resistance to tearing.
- Low viscosity before vulcanization (raw), which facilitates handling for mold making and part nailing, minimizing the “rebound” effect.
- High flexibility, which allows the demolding of complicated parts.
- High resistance to metal abrasion.
- High resistance to chemical attack by resins.
In our laboratories we carry out a meticulous control of all raw materials and, thanks to high-tech equipment, we carry out all the quality controls necessary to certify the manufactured product.
In order to determine which is the most suitable type of mould for the part we want to manufacture, we must take into account several factors, among which the following stand out:
- Shape (geometry) of the part
- Weight/volume ratio of the same
- Size of the part conditioning the mould diameter
- Flexibility required for the demoulding of the part.
The choice of the right mold will depend on the specific characteristics of each part and the manufacturing process. If you would like to explore these criteria in more detail, see our article. 3 simple steps to choose the right silicone mold, where we explain in practical terms which factors you should consider before making your selection.
Range of moulds for all types of pewter applications.
They combine high mechanical and abrasion resistance with excellent tear resistance.

For the manufacture of parts that are difficult to remove from the mould, we should choose moulds of lower hardness, as they are more flexible and have excellent resistance to breakage.
All our products have Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Do not hesitate to ask for more information.
Although it is true that our SILCODISC moulds do not have an expiry date, we always recommend using them within 6 months of manufacture.
For optimum results in the manufacture of your pewter parts, we recommend the use of our pewter alloys, which are specially designed for casting quality parts. See our section on pewter alloys.
Applications of pewter moulds
Pewter is not an inexpensive material, it is highly resistant to elements such as oxidation and loss of shine. These characteristics make it a very popular material for the manufacture of parts in a wide variety of activities and applications.
The main sectors that use our pewter moulds are:
- Jewelry
- Wargames and miniatures
- Shoe ornaments
- High-quality fashion accessories without mechanical demands
- Gift items
- Maquetismo
Instructions for use
To ensure optimum results in the manufacture of parts by pewter casting in a silicone mould, it is essential that the operator’s hands, work tables and all tools are kept at the highest level of cleanliness. In addition, the original parts must be free of any traces of grease or varnish.
Thanks to the low viscosity of the mould before vulcanisation, the parts are placed in the mould in the usual way and very easily.
The following parameters have to be taken into account for the vulcanisation of the mould:
- Temperature: 170 – 180 ºC
- Pressure: 10 kgs/cm2 minimum. See our pressure table
- Time: 5 minutes for every 2 mm. of mould thickness
Example: taking these data into account, a 10+10 mm mould. = 20 mm thick, it would require 50 minutes of vulcanisation at the indicated temperature.
To make the mould correctly, we have all kinds of accessories such as centring devices, mould release agents, gouges of different sizes, tear-off silicone, Teflon and silicone bars, etc.
In addition, if you have any doubts about the manufacturing process of the parts, both when making the mould and the casting process, or if you simply want to improve your technique, Coniex offers centrifugal casting courses, which are given at our facilities.
Our Applications Laboratory is at your disposal for any questions you may have.
